Our large brown compostable pouches have a stylish, natural look and feel, whilst providing an eco-friendly packaging solution for a wide variety of produce.
These compostable pouches feature a smart brown kraft paper outer layer and a food-safe inner layer made from Polylactic Acid (PLA) – a renewable material that conforms to industrial composting standard EN13432.
With a capacity of 1.3 – 1.4 litres, these large pouches are suitable for a wide diverse of food items – including nuts, confectionery or dried fruit – whilst a resealable squeeze-shut strip allows for continual reuse and helps to keep contents fresh.
The pouches are also suitable for heat-sealing with a range of heat sealers, whilst handy tear-off notches allow for simple opening after heat-sealing.
These pouches should be stored in a cool, dry place, to help maintain product integrity. If stored correctly, they have a shelf life of 12 months, although this may be reduced if the pouches are exposed to direct sunlight, heat or moisture.
These brown compostable pouches have been designed for disposal in an industrial composting facility (organic recycling). Customers should check with their local authority before disposing of any compostable packaging along with your organic (food or garden) waste.
How do I add my own design onto the pouches?
Choose whether you want to print on one or both sides of the pouch, then click on 'Add Your Design'. This opens our design tool, which allows you to upload an image (e.g. company logo) or create your own design.
Can I print on just one side of the pouch?
Yes, you can choose to print on just one side of the pouch, or on both sides.
Can I have a different design printed on each side of the pouch?
Yes, each side of the pouch is designed separately, so you can have different designs printed on either side, if you wish to..
Can I print over the pouch seal?
Yes, you can print over the seal. However, please note that the seal raises the print surface slightly, so the design may not be 100% accurate on this part of the pouch.
Can I print above the pouch seal?
Yes, you can print above the seal, all the way to the top of the designated print area. However, please note that these pouches contain a tear-off strip, so the very top of the pouch (i.e. above this strip) will be removed when the pouch is opened. Please note the position of the tear-off strip, as outlined in our design tool.
Can my design include text?
Yes it can. However, please note that all text needs to be outlined and the minimum printable font size is 10pt.
Can my design extend all the way to the edge of the print area?
Yes it can. The print area is fixed within set margins from the edge of the pouch, so your design can extend all the way to the edge of the print area.
Can my design include large areas of solid colour?
We do not recommend printing large, solid areas, as mottling can occur due to the digital print process.
Can you print any type of design?
We can, but if you are printing on a brown pouch, we would recommend a simple design in a single colour, to reduce the potential darkening effect caused by the brown paper.
Can you print in any colour?
No. It is not possible to print white so, if your design includes white, please choose white pouches. If your design includes lighter colours, we recommend also choosing white pouches, for more accurate colour reproduction and to reduce the potential darkening effect caused by the brown paper.
Can you print white on a brown pouch?
No. It is not possible to print white. If your design includes white, please choose white pouches, so that the pouch itself can be used as the white within your design.
Do printed colours look the same on white and brown pouches?
No. For more accurate colour reproduction, we recommend choosing white pouches, as brown paper can produce a slight darkening effect.
Can I see a preview of my design?
Yes you can. Our design tool will provide a preview of what the design will look like on your pouch. Please note that this is for illustrative purposes and not an exact preview of what your pouches will look like. If you wish to see a preview of your pouch, you can order a sample (see next question).
Can I order a sample of my pouches printed with my design?
Yes you can. After placing your order, you will be contacted by the PB Print team. You can request a single sample of your pouches from them at a cost of £25 + VAT. This fee is refundable upon request after your order is complete.
Are these pouches recyclable?
No, these pouches are not recyclable in paper recycling streams, but they are suitable for disposal in an industrial composting facility, along with other organic waste (e.g. food and garden waste). Please always check with your local authority to see if they accept compostable packaging in their organic recycling.

They are made from brown kraft paper laminated to a layer of Polylactic Acid (PLA), which is a material made using renewable resources - such as sugar cane or corn starch - that conforms to industrial composting standard EN13432. We advise that customers check with their local authority to see if they accept compostable packaging in their organic waste collection.
How should I store these compostable pouches?
These pouches must be stored in a cool, dark place, in their original packaging. They have a maximum shelf life of 12 months as standard, as they are designed to structurally break down and decompose after this point. Exposure to sunlight, direct heat or moisture can reduce this shelf life.
